Raised in a creative household, Franco is the eldest of three brothers, including actors Dave and Tom Franco. His mother, Betsy Franco, is a writer and artist, while his father, Douglas Franco, was a Silicon Valley businessman. After graduating from Palo Alto High School in 1996, Franco briefly attended UCLA as an English major before leaving to pursue acting. He later returned to academia, earning degrees from institutions such as Columbia University and Yale University, reflecting his dedication to continuous learning. 

Breakthrough and Acting Career

Franco's breakout role came with the cult television series Freaks and Geeks (1999–2000), where he portrayed the character Daniel Desario. He gained further acclaim for his portrayal of James Dean in the 2001 biographical television film James Dean, earning a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.

He achieved international fame playing Harry Osborn in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy (2002–2007).
